He was dismissed by letter in May 1837 from the Baptist Church. He was
a farmer by occupation. In the division of the farm of his late father,
Dr. Asahel Cooley, in Fleming, NY by agreement of June 1, 1830, Asahel
received the northern portion, about 100 acres, and the wagon house,
while his younger brother Samuel took the rest. Asahel was to buy out
the rights of Polly Chapin, Nancy Chapin's three children, Henry H. and
Harvey, and half of the rights of the children of Sally Wars.
On January 13, 1829 at Brutus, NY, he married Melinda Bingham, born Feb.
16, 1809. She was the daughter of Ezra and Anna Miller Bingham. Ezra
Bingham was born Dec 31, 1784; died April 4, 1844. They are both buried
in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Throop, NY. Their children: Amelis Maria,
born May 31 1830, Throop, NY. and Ezra Bingham, born Aug 25, 1832,
Throop, NY.
